Join My Creative Classroom as we help the victims of Haiti's recent earthquake. Ten of the MCC faculty and myself have come together to offer this wonderful class. It is really a 'buffet' of different styles and techniques.

Haiti by Hand

All proceeds from this class will go to a wonderful organization.....Haiti by Hand. Haiti By Hand is an artisan group of Haitian women begun by Rebecca Sower. Just days before the earthquakes of January 2010, Rebecca was in Haiti working with this group of women. This etsy shop was established to showcase and sell the handcrafts of the Haitians, as well as a shop to sell items donated by artists and crafters who want to help this group of Haitians rebuild and establish themselves after the devastation of the earthquakes.

Joining me for this wonderful class are the following MCC Instructors:
  • Colleen Schaan: Knowing who you ARE is extremely important. Knowing who you WERE and who you WILL BE is just as important. Explore everything YOU in this multi-media self portrait project. Take a walk down memory lane and honor your memories; celebrate your experiences and talents; look forward to your wishes, your dreams and your goals.
  • Shirley Pando: Try your hand at a mixed media canvas board project. Learn an embellishment technique, paint, stamp, and add collected bits to create a fun canvas to display in your home.
  • Catherine Matthews-Scanlon: In this lesson you'll learn the history and the basics of making and trading Artist Trading Cards, often called ATC's.
  • Jennifer Priest: "Go Green" as we create a *mostly* recycled Mini Book using Zutter Cardboard and Donna Salazar's new paper line. We'll bind the book with the Zutter Bind It All machine.
  • Samantha Star:Who says grungy can't be beautiful and bright!?! Grab your inks and some favorite stamps and join me on this multicolored journey! We will create two bold and beautiful cards using resist techniques, masking, distressing and more! Prepare to get messy!
  • Linda Dotterer: 5 Sketches, 5 cards using the Slice Wedding design card. Techniques used are using the Slice to cut out a die cut inside of another die cut and layering die cuts. I'm also going to include tips for masculine cards.
  • Kim Fairbanks:Spring has sprung! In this basic digital class, we’ll use Photoshop Elements and an adorable spring template to do a scrapbook page layout. Students will learn a couple of basic tools to get them started in the digital world. So get those photos ready and join me in this great springy class!

  • Kylie Hopkins:In this lesson, students will learn how to create a beautiful mini album to showcase their photos and include meaningful journaling. metal sample

Metal embossing is one of the hottest techniques in the market today. The art of embossing metal has been around for centuries but has just exploded with papercrafting artists within the last few years. Papercrafters are using embossed metal for their cards, scrapbooks, home decor and more!

Have you wanted to try metal embossing but not sure how it's done? It's an easy and rewarding craft. Kim Parkinson has made metal embossing her passion for the last 4 years. She is a Ten Seconds Studio Certified Instructor but hasn't stopped there. Kim has created a Metal Sampler with 14 different embossing techniques that are both easy to learn and to apply to your crafts and projects. She's even created a technique of her own and shares that technique in this 3 week workshop. Once completed your Sampler also makes a beautiful piece of art for you to hang and display!

Metal embossing isn't difficult and it doesn't have to be expensive. Using many popular items such as stamps, stencils, paints, inks and sprays, you are sure to have many of the items to complete this project on hand already. Kim will guide you through the embossing products in the market today as well as showing you some simple and economical ways you can get started. Please take a look at the Supply List for a more information on what we will be using in class. Or take a look at the Substitution List to see how quickly you can get started!
